To say Chelsea have spent big in recent transfer windows would be a huge understatement. Since the arrival of Todd Boehly in the summer of 2022, the Blues have parted ways with over £1billion, breaking their own transfer record twice in the space of six months, on signings for their current senior team and for the future.
In the most recent window, Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer were the marquee players signed to replace a wealth of stars who departed the club. Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic headed up the list of exits with Chelsea able to recoup over £300million from player sales.
Plans for the January window are likely already being drawn up but as opposed to spending more money in the winter window, it could be worth Chelsea instead beginning pre-contract talks with a number of players who see their current deals expire in the summer of 2024. With that said, football.london has pulled together four players who could help save Chelsea millions as new arrivals.
Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe dominated headlines in the summer transfer window after his refusal to sign a contract extension saw the French champions place him up for sale to the highest bidder. Despite accepting a world-record £259million bid from Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal, Mbappe remained in the French capital, although his future is still unresolved.
Chelsea were one of the clubs showing an interest in the World Cup winner and Todd Boehly could make the decision to re-activate that interest in an attempt to bring one of the best footballers on the planet to west London for free.
