AC Milan take the first step towards futuristic new stadium

The club took its first formal step towards the project by presenting its proposal to build a new ground to the San Donato Milanese town council today.

AC Milan took the first formal step towards the construction of its new stadium which, barring delays, should start in October 2025. As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossonero club presented to the town council of San Donato Milanese the proposed urban planning variant necessary for the project that is earmarked to be built in the San Francesco district. With this formal act, the intention of Milan is now clear. In June, the club signed a preliminary agreement with SportLifeCity, the company that owns the land selected for the new stadium.

The project seeks to create a new “single infrastructure hub in the Milan area (railway, metro, motorway)”, since it would be the first large structure that those arriving in the city would find arriving from the south. This is just the beginning of a long journey, which does not yet have a defined shape, although the first details are already being filtered. It will be a stadium with capacity for 70,000 spectators, deeper and more comfortable stands, suitable for events, concerts and other sports. Near the field will be the new Casa Milan, the club store and its museum, as well as a hotel and an entertainment center.

The club is aiming to build “the most sustainable stadium in Italy and one of the most sustainable in Europe” by attaining LEED Gold certification, utilising energy-saving measures and using renewable energy sources, as well as implementing a water recycling system.
