The agent of Arsenal star Jorginho has lifted the lid on his client's future at the Emirates Stadium. The Italian international arrived from Chelsea back in the January transfer window, penning an 18-month contract with the club having the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months, football.london understands.
It remains to be seen whether or not the Gunners will exercise that option, with the player's agent Joao Santos now opening up on the situation. Speaking about Jorginho's future in north London, Santos told Tuttomercatoweb: «Everything is at a standstill.
»Well think about it after February. However, the priority remains Arsenal."
Jorginho has been starting as a No.6 in recent weeks, with Kai Havertz and Declan Rice supporting him slightly further forward. However, the former Napoli midfielder may end up back on the bench after the ongoing international break, with club captain Martin Odegaard likely to return to full fitness this weekend when Arsenal take on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Odegaard has been struggling with a hip injury and also took a ball to the face during a training session at London Colney in the lead up to the loss against Newcastle United earlier this month. The Norway international failed a fitness test ahead of the defeat to the Magpies after being checked over for concussion.
football.london understands that the former Real Madrid playmaker was put through his paces at London Colney on Tuesday last week and continues to be assessed, but is expected to return against Brentford. The 24-year-old was called up for Norway duty ahead of the international break before withdrawing from the squad to continue his recovery at the Gunners' London Colney training base.
