Ben Chilwell is expected to be sidelined until at least mid-December with a hamstring injury, football.london understands. The England international was withdrawn during Chelsea's 1-0 win against Brighton in the Carabao Cup third round last week.
After scans on Chilwell's injury took place — it is now expected that the Blues' vice-captain is set to be absent for some huge fixtures before returning in time for the festive period. Chilwell has had awful luck with injuries over the past couple of seasons and missed 20 games last term with two separate hamstring problems.
«I think it is bad news,» Mauricio Pochettino said last week on the injury. «The doctor told me it is not a good thing.
»It is a bad injury but we need to assess in the next few days and we'll see the period he is going to be out of the squad and the team. But I think it doesn't look good, the injury."
Pochettino's fears have now been realised with Levi Colwill expected to continue on at left-back in Chilwell's absence. Chelsea do have Ian Maatsen and Marc Cucurella who can play at left-back.
Chilwell's injury comes as a huge blow for the Blues who are facing somewhat of an injury crisis. Wesley Fofana and Christopher Nkunku are not expected to return for some time, whilst Benoit Badiashile, Reece James and Romeo Lavia remain sidelined with their own injury woes.
