Glenavon captain Danny Wallace has made a frank admission that he and his team-mates have let down their fans this season.
The knock-on effect of losing five of their first seven games was manager Gary Hamilton’s 12-year reign at the club coming to an end last week.
Stand-in boss Gary McAlister helped restore pride and put smiles on faces at Mourneview Park thanks to a 2-1 win over Carrick Rangers.
McAlister confirmed afterwards that he won’t be seeking the job on a permanent basis. Wallace, however, believes that the club is primed for a new boss to revive its fortunes — and even break the establishment in the top six.

“We haven’t started the season well. It’s been a poor, poor start, but we know as players there is quality in the dressing room,” said Wallace. “I don’t think we were getting every last ounce out of all the players. We know that, we held our hands up on Thursday night.
“We’ve let the fans down, especially here at home. Yes, we did beat Ballymena, but against Newry it was a poor performance and last week at Dungannon was poor so it was all about getting the fans back on board and getting everyone in the club involved.
“We still don’t know who the manager is so we have to take it one training session and one match at time and try to build up the pride again for the club and ourselves.
