Chelsea provided an absolute masterclass on how not to score a goal on Sunday afternoon as they were unable to find the back of the net for a second successive match. Prior to the international break, the Blues were beaten 1-0 at home to Nottingham Forest and it was more of the same – albeit leaving with a point this time – on Sunday as they drew 0-0 with AFC Bournemouth down on the south coast.
The visitors could not have physically come any closer to scoring during the match at the Vitality Stadium. Raheem Sterling's free-kick from the edge of the box in the second-half hit the crossbar and then came down with the majority of the ball crossing the line, but not all of it. Levi Colwill then put in the rebound but he was flagged offside.
Chelsea supporters, who were in fine voice down in Bournemouth, could be heard at points shouting, 'attack, attack, attack!', as they became more and more desperate to see their team score a goal. Unfortunately it was not to be for the Blues – who now prepare for Aston Villa coming to Stamford Bridge at the weekend having not found the back of the net since in the Premier League since Nicolas Jackson's goal against Luton Town on August 25.
There were, however, some positives to take from Chelsea's goalless draw with Bournemouth on Sunday – and one of them was the performance of midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu. Going into Sunday's game, the 19-year-old had played just 16 minutes of Premier League football – in two cameos against Liverpool and Luton, so to say his name on the team sheet was a surprise would perhaps be an understatement.
