Chelsea are looking to make it back-to-back away wins for just the second time this season as they travel to Crystal Palace on Monday, but they will have to do it with a slightly reshuffled squad. The Blues will have been hopeful of naming an unchanged side to the one that beat Aston Villa last week, but that has been taken out of Mauricio Pochettino's hands.
The 51-year-old tends to rotate on a weekly basis anyway, but on this occasion, the side he selected at Villa Park proved to be so dominant against top opposition that too much movement away would risk letting momentum slip. One change is expected to be forced upon him, though.
Benoit Badiashile is yet to be ruled out of the squad but his injury on Wednesday has put his place in serious doubt. He was one of the best performers in the 3-1 FA Cup replay win but had to be taken off late as his injury worries surfaced once again.
«Badiashile, we need to assess him,» Pochettino said without giving much away. «We still need to wait for the scan. I hope it's not a big issue. We need to assess now and after we will know better, his situation.»
Having struggled before this year with fitness problems, and the glimpse of his partnership with Axel Disasi offering plenty of reason to be excited, it is certainly a worry for the Blues. Luckily Levi Colwill could return immediately to replace him.
The youngster has been out since the original FA Cup tie against Villa but was cleared from the club-issued injury list. «Levi Colwill, we need to wait until Sunday to see if it's possible to be available,» Pochettino explained.
