Declan Rice dealt Arsenal injury blow during North London Derby against Tottenham
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice had to be withdrawn with a calf injury at half-time of the North London Derby against Tottenham. The England international was replaced by Jorginho — adding to the injury list at the Emirates Stadium.
Leandro Trossard became yet another absentee for Mikel Arteta's side ahead of kick-off — joining Gabriel Martinelli, Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber in the treatment room. Bukayo Saka opened the scoring for Arsenal after his shot was deflected into the net off of Cristian Romero.
Spurs equalised before half-time through Son Heung-min after David Raya had pulled off an exceptional save to keep the Gunners ahead just minutes prior. Arteta will be concerned at the mounting injury list at Arsenal and is expected to provide an update on Rice after the game.
Rice is understood to have returned to the substitutes bench after half-time with tape around his calf. This suggests the £105million summer signing has suffered a muscle injury and may be sidelined for a number of weeks depending on the severity of the issue.
Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny are now left as Arsenal's only two senior defensive midfielders — with Partey still sidelined with a groin problem. The Ghana international is not expected to return to action until after the October international break.
