What are your thoughts on the game?
Really happy. Extremely happy with the performance and the way we played. After six years of not doing that that was the challenge for us and the opportunity as well. We looked at everything we needed to do and I saw that on the pitch. We created a lot of changes, I think we dominated the game, we gave nothing away. To do that here big compliment to the players because it’s not easy to do that.
Is the short corner routine something you identified as a weakness for Everton?
Yeah we work on everything, as every manager does, to expose the weakness of the opponents and to hide yours. That’s the outcome of what we tried to do. Then the results take care of themselves. We found openings in many other ways but we weren’t neat enough to take advantage in the last pass, the last action. Credit to them because they defend the box really well as well. Probably the game would have been really different if Martinelli’s goal had been allowed. It wasn’t. I feel super happy today.
How is Maritnelli?
He felt, I think, something in the action in the run for the goal. He’s not normally a player to have muscular issues, but he had to come off. Let’s see.
Sky had the corner as taking 26 seconds to be taken…
That’s a yellow card!
Is that a tactic to put off the opponent or trying to hear from the coach what routine he wants to use?
Obviously, we prepare every situation in a way that we have to keep it for ourselves. We don’t want to give anything to the opponents as you can imagine. We try to practice. Obviously set pieces are something huge and for us because we generate that many we have to be really good at it because it’s a really good way to win the game, just like how many other clubs do it.
