Gabriel Jesus was once more unable to play for Arsenal as he missed the 6-0 win over West Ham with injury. It means that the Brazilian has now only completed 78 minutes across the past four games.
Mikel Arteta was coy on his progress from a knee injury that saw him struggle during the winter break. «No, no update,» he told reporters on Friday. He had been originally hopeful that the issue would only keep him out for a short period.
«With Gabi we expect it to be something that is days,» the head coach said before the win over Liverpool last week. «Unfortunately, he had a setback in training and he wasn't fit to play.
»It's something related to his knee, but I think it's a short-term thing. The return [against Forest] might’ve been a bit too fast for him."
Jesus also struggled with knee problems in pre-season. He missed three matches earlier in the campaign through hamstring troubles too.
In his absence, the Gunners have continued to motor. Jesus both scored and assisted against Nottingham Forest but outside of that his teammates comprehensively got the better of Liverpool before hammering West Ham. Jesus has been given an enjoyable watch in the meantime though.
