‘I cannot wait to see this again’ – Julian Alvarez’s ‘magic’ feet leave Ally McCoist stunned for Man City goal
Julian Alvarez’s equaliser for Manchester City needed replays to be believed.
The Argentine levelled the scoring in the Group G encounter against Red Star Belgrade with just a minute on the clock in the second half.
It seemed like an equaliser would eventually come for the reigning champions, but instead of the usual source being Erling Haaland, the Norwegian turned provider.
He was then left absolutely stunned at the sheer quality that came next from Alvarez, who took one touch to beat Red Star’s goalkeeper Omri Glazer, before then producing a finish in the blink of an eye when it looked like he’d run out of time and space.
talkSPORT’s Ally McCoist scored a fair few goals in his time as a Scotland and Rangers legend, but even he was left flabbergasted by Alvarez;s quality.
“I’ll tell you what the finish is incredible, it’s a double touch,” McCoist said on commentary for TNT Sports. “I cannot wait to see this again.
“He takes a touch and then immediately another one.
“Brilliant. Brilliant. If he doesn’t hit it early he’s by it and can’t get a finish.
“It’s magic it really is, it’s perfect, the speed of the feet from the first touch to his second is what makes the goal.”
Alvarez then put City ahead with a free-kick, although he was helped by some poor goalkeeping by Omri Glazer. Rodri added City's third with a calm and precise finish.
