Jaap Stam agrees with Paul Scholes verdict on Rasmus Hojlund at Manchester United

Jaap Stam has agreed with Paul Scholes after the former Manchester United midfielder claimed Rasmus Hojlund needs more help from his teammates.

Hojlund has shown plenty of promise since arriving from Atalanta in a £72million deal but is yet to score in the Premier League. The 20-year-old has missed several good opportunities to open his account but also lacked consistent service.

Scholes has laid the blame on Hojlund's teammates more than once, most recently urging United's wide players to feed the Dane with decent crosses. And before the 4-3 Champions League defeat against FC Copenhagen, the former Reds midfielder singled out Bruno Fernandes for not doing enough.

It is a concern echoed by Stam, who has been impressed by Hojlund's start to life at United but admits it is not easy moving to such a big club.

“He has made a really good impression on me," Stam told Tipsbladet. "I think he is a really good player.

"He is very talented. He has an excellent left foot, a really good physique and lots of speed. And he has shown that in his first matches for United.

“When you come to such a big club as a very young man, it is not easy to show his qualities. Because he also needs the players around him (to help out). He needs them to put him on the stage and give him opportunities to score.”

Hojlund has now gone nine Premier League games without a goal and may not be fit to feature against Everton on Sunday. The Reds striker pulled up with a hamstring issue during the 1-0 win over Luton Town before the international break and withdrew from international duty with Denmark.
