JASON Haveron says he’s gutted at how things panned out at his beloved Shankill United after stepping down as manager over the weekend.
Following meetings with the club last Tuesday and Thursday in the wake of a torrid start to the new campaign, Haveron and first team coach Glenn Dorrian informed the committee they were resigning with immediate effect, citing differences of opinion on the way forward.
Haveron remains convinced the quality is there in the ranks to get the club back firing – the Agnes Street men have registered just a single win in the opening seven weeks of the season, a 1-0 league victory over Rosario early in August – and that he and Dorrian were the men to do it.
But after weighing things up, among them doubts about the backing he would now get from the club, Haveron decided to call time on his reign as first team manager.
And with an association which stretches back 17 years, and includes the development of the academy alongside the late Stevie Maddox, it was a decision he took with a heavy heart.
"The club did ask me about results, and they asked me could we turn it around, and I told them we are only four (league) games into the season, and that it would be turned around no problem,” Haveron told the Belfast Telegraph.
"But there were one or two other issues that came up with the club that I didn’t agree with, they just didn’t sit right with me, so that was my decision (made).
