Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Armando Broja will not start in tomorrow night's Carabao Cup third round clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.
The striker made his return from injury after 10 months out in the weekend's1-0 Premier League defeat to Aston Villa. Broja was on the field for 20 minutes but was unable to prevent the Blues suffering their second straight home defeat.
There had been hope that the Albanian centre-forward would start for the first time since before the World Cup in tomorrow evening's clash with Brighton. However, Pochettino has insisted that a place in his starting XI is too soon.
«No, he is not ready to start,» the Argentine said. «I think he is helping the team and doing well but he needs time to be fit again to be able to start a game. I think for 20, 25, 30 minutes he can help the team but he is not ready.»
News on Broja's fitness followed a brief update on a number of players from the club. Benoit Badiashile (hamstring) and Carney Chukwuemeka (knee) are 'in partial team training' meaning their return could be sooner rather than later.
Reece James, Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah and Marcus Bettinelli all continue their rehabilitation programme ahead of a return later this season. The update means Chelsea are currently without eight players.
