Levi Colwill believes Nicolas Jackson will be prolific for Chelsea following the Senegal international's second goal of the season against Brighton. Jackson coolly dispatched Cole Palmer's pass in what proved to be the decisive moment of the Carabao Cup clash, with the Blues progressing to face Blackburn Rovers in the fourth round of the competition.
Jackson has lacked a clinical edge for much of the season, despite some promising all-round performances and come under increased scrutiny having already picked up five yellow cards this season. That sees him banned for Chelsea's next game against Fulham in the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino confirmed ahead of the match with Brighton that Jackson would receive a punishment for his suspension, but has also admitted his indiscretions could have arrived due to frustration in front of goal. Nevertheless, the Blues boss has spoken glowingly about the 22-year-old's potential.
Colwill speaks in the same encouraging way about what Jackson can offer Chelsea moving forwards. The Blues defender was pleased that Jackson was able to show the finishing quality he displayed during pre-season, given recent misfortune in front of goal.
He said: “Yes definitely. It doesn’t matter what everyone is saying and you just can’t listen to the noise. You just go out on the pitch and do your job. He went out there today and got a goal and created chances. When it all clicks, how many goals will he score for us? I know it will be a lot. I am so happy for him. Hopefully he can take it on.”
Colwill believes Jackson and the team have the belief required to be successful.
