Liverpool 'candidate' to replace Jurgen Klopp has been 'chosen' by Real Madrid
Real Madrid could reportedly win yet another race in the market against Liverpool - not for a player this time however, but for Xabi Alonso.
The Reds and Jurgen Klopp are clearly a very happy match right now. The German rejected the opportunity to become his national team's boss in favour of undertaking his 'Liverpool 2.0' project for the upcoming seasons.
Life after Klopp presents a difficult question that nobody will want to think about just yet though come the time, conversations will not be able to be shied away from.
One option is already getting lots of attention. Club hero Xabi Alonso - now a successful manager of Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen - is currently on course to reach the end of his contract in the summer of 2026, the same year as Klopp's Anfield deal expires.

Bookies are certainly backing Alonso to be a possible Klopp successor. His odds are around 10/1, with only Pep Lijnders, Julian Nagelsmann and Steven Gerrard ahead of him in some markets.
With his current club tied with Bayern Munich at the top of the German league - hinting there is a feisty title race burgeoning there - and boasting an overall win percentage of 52.3 since arriving there 356 days ago, partnered to his exciting style of football that has taken lessons from the likes of Rafael Benitez, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Vicente del Bosque, Alonso could make a strong candidate to step into the Anfield dugout with three years' extra experience in management.
