Pep Guardiola's treble-winners have made a record-equalling start in the Premier League — but who has been their best performer and who must improve?
They say that getting a winning team to keep on winning is the hardest thing to do in football. Try telling that to Manchester City, who have followed the greatest-ever campaign in the club's history by winning all of their first six Premier League matches, equalling their best start to a season.
City have not had things easy either. After parting with serial winners Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez in the summer, they then lost Kevin De Bruyne to a torn hamstring for four months, while John Stones is yet to play a minute of league football due to injury. They have had to contend with yet more injury disruption as the season has progressed and even had to do without Pep Guardiola for over two weeks while the coach underwent back surgery.
Yet they have kept on doing their thing, dominating matches, defending resolutely and feeding the insatiable Erling Haaland, who is already way ahead in the race for the Golden Boot. The only negative note has beenlosing to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup and ending hopes that they could go one better than last season and win the quadruple.
