Mauricio Pochettino applauded Mykhailo Mudryk after fizzing a left-footed shot into the top corner during Chelsea training. It is no secret that the Ukrainian international has struggled since joining the club earlier this year. At one point, Mudryk appeared set to join London rivals Arsenal until Todd Boehly hijacked the deal.
The American swooped in from under the Gunners' noses and paid around £88million with all add-ons included to sign him in January. However, he has struggled to replicate the form shown at his previous club Shakhtar Donetsk.
Mudryk had raced to 10 goals across all competitions — including three in the Champions League — before Chelsea forked out the mouthwatering fee. Since then, he has failed to score a goal in 21 Blues appearances.
Fears have already begun to emerge about his long-term future at Stamford Bridge just nine months into an eight-year contract. But that has not stopped Mudryk from impressing his new manager in training.
Pochettino watched on as Mudryk found the top corner with a vicious left-footed strike. The effort received a pat on the back from his manager, who is yet to start a game this season.
Supporters are hopeful that Mudryk is now showing signs of the player that caused Chelsea to stump up an initial £62million less than a year ago. One fan commented: «Bro will come good, I have no doubt about that.»
