After providing a stunning rivalry for the Premier League title last season, both Arsenal and Manchester City are looking to go head-to-head once again this year. The quick start of the Gunners outpaced the rest of the division last time out as they took a hold of top spot early on.
With a decent gap to City, it seemed as though with every passing game, the title was destined to end up in the Emirates Stadium come May. That wasn't to be though, as Pep Guardiola's well-oiled machine kicked into gear as winning became a formality for them once again.
Some slips from Arsenal late on also provided the backdrop towards a difficult end to an otherwise positive year for Mikel Arteta, who saw yet more progression in his project. That would never be enough for Arsenal though, with the club demanding success at every turn, with standards raised to expect as much.
A £200million spend over the summer saw the squad bolstered and ready to go again, this time with the aim of going one step further. The Gunners have had a decent start to the campaign with five wins and two draws from their opening seven games so far, giving them 17 points.
Man City have started slightly quicker, with six wins and one loss that puts them one point ahead, but recent defeats will give some hope to Arteta. One of the key players Arsenal will have to deny if they are to earn a victory is star striker Erling Haaland.
