Callum Wilson has questioned why Mauricio Pochettino overlooked Romelu Lukaku after arriving at Stamford Bridge. While Chelsea have struggled to find the back of the net this season, the 30-year-old striker has hit the ground running at Roma after joining on a season-long loan.
Lukaku, who sees his contract at Stamford Bridge expire in 2026, has featured three times for Jose Mourinho's side in the Serie A this term, scoring two goals. His impressive performances for the Italian outfit have caught the eye of Wilson, who believes that the Belgium international is just what the Blues needed.
«It is incredible, because he is an out-and-out goalscorer,» the Newcastle striker told The Footballers' Football Podcast. «The kind of striker I'm talking about, he's not going to play pretty football but he will bully defenders and stick the ball in the back of the net and ultimately that's what they are missing.
»I think they have scored five goals this season I saw a stat and I think Haaland has outscored them. That's unlike Chelsea, especially with the money that they have spent."
While Lukaku may have helped Pochettino solve Chelsea's woes in front of goal, the Belgian's return would not have been received well by supporters following his controversial comments about the club. Just months after joining the Blues from Inter Milan for almost £100million, he told Sky Sports Italy that he regretted leaving the Nerazzurri and talked up the prospect of a potential move back to the San Siro.
