OGC Nice have announced their ambition to secure European football for next season, with Francesco Farioli’s side currently sitting second in Ligue 1.
“At the start, we whispered it, then we said it, now we proclaim it: ‘We want Europe’,” read a statement on Nice’s social media channels on Thursday, just three days before the club face local rivals AS Monaco in the Derby de la Côte d’Azur. Les Aiglons currently have a four-point gap to the Principality club, who are a genuine rival for a Champions League place. This season, the top three automatically enter in the group stage, whilst the fourth-placed side will have to secure entry through the playo-offs.
The post also served as a call to arms for the club’s fans. Le Gym currently have the eighth-highest average attendance in Ligu1 this season, with an average of 25,493 fans attending each game at the Allianz Riviera. That’s a significant increase on the average of 22,286 fans that attended last season.
