Onana insists he's not just at Man Utd because he's 'good with his feet'

Andre Onana insists he has not just been brought to Manchester United because he is good with his feet as he vowed to help Erik ten Hag’s side recover from a difficult start to the season.

The goalkeeper has been beaten 10 times in his opening five games for United as his new club have suffered three defeats ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League opener against Bayern Munich.

Although the Cameroon keeper hasn’t made any high-profile blunders, it has raised questions over his shot-stopping ability after replacing David de Gea this summer.

Onana was bought from Inter Milan for £47.2million with a reputation for being good with the ball at his feet, but he acknowledged that his first job has to be to keep it out of the net.

‘I don’t think I’m here because I'm good with my feet,’ he said. ‘First I have to save the goals, that’s why I’m here.

‘The most important is the team, we are here to win. If the team needs me with my feet, I will be good with my feet. but it depends on the situation, a high block or a low block.

‘Replacing David isn’t something easy. The start of the season is not what we want. It will come, I’m very confident. We all have to step up. We didn’t start well but I'm confident we’ll get it right. When I see how we’re working I’m confident and excited.’
