Here is your morning Arsenal digest on Wednesday, October 11.
Rio Ferdinand has argued that Manchester City defender John Stones is the best centre-back in the Premier League, ahead of Arsenal's William Saliba. «John Stones is the best centre-half in the Premier League at the moment,» Ferdinand told his YouTube channel.
«Defensively he was going back into the back four. John Stones, no other centre-half in the Premier League did what John Stones did last season.
»He could be in the argument, he’s such a different player, he’s brought more to the position because he’s being asked to. John Stones right now he looks so composed with the authority he plays with."
Arsenal clinched a 1-0 victory against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday afternoon thanks to an 86th-minute strike from substitute Gabriel Martinelli, with his effort taking a huge deflection off Citizens centre-back Nathan Ake. After the full-time whistle, tempers flared as footage showed arguments and pushing between City defender Walker and Gunners set-piece coach Nicolas Jover, who was previously employed by City.
Jover looked to shake his former colleague's hand near the tunnel, a gesture that clearly annoyed Walker. Now, the Manchester Evening News have reported that members of Guardiola's squad were disappointed by Jover's actions last season, with the German coach said to have refused to shake their hands after the reigning champions' two league victories over the north London last term.
The FA won't be taking any action regarding the incident.
