Roberto De Zerbi is on Real Madrid's shortlist of potential successors for manager Carlo Ancelotti, talkSPORT understands.
The Brighton head coach is under contract until the summer of 2025 and has a release clause believed to be in excess of £10million.
The Seagulls are understood to be relaxed about De Zerbi's future after a Premier League-best finish last season.
The 44-year-old was only hired as Graham Potter's successor last season in September, but has earned widespread praise for his results and style of football at Brighton.
Despite no official confirmation from Madrid, Ancelotti is set to leave the club next year after the head of the Brazilian football federation announced he would be taking charge of the national team.
That deal would begin in June 2024 for the Copa America, leaving Madrid needing a new head coach.
Reports from Marca earlier in the week claimed the club had decided on former player Xabi Alonso to lead them next season.
Ancelotti even backed his former player, with Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen joint-top of the Bundesliga, but the former Liverpool man did recently sign a contract extension in Germany.
