James Maddison has been a revelation for Tottenham since joining the club in a £40million deal from Leicester City this summer. The midfielder is so far turning out to be one of the signings of the summer, with two goals and two assists already to his name in five matches.
He has become a firm fans' favourite at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and was handed the vice-captaincy by Ange Postecoglou soon after arriving at the club. With Harry Kane departing for Bayern Munich in a £100million deal, Maddison swiftly took the number ten shirt and has taken on the mantle of creator-in-chief.
Spurs are unbeaten from the first five games of the Premier League season, sitting second in the table just two points behind Manchester City, who are the only team with a 100% record in the league. Maddison has been key to that impressive start, but things are going to ramp up in the coming weeks for Spurs.
The 26-year-old will take part in his first ever North London Derby on Sunday, as unbeaten Spurs make the short trip to face their also unbeaten fierce rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, with Liverpool to follow the next weekend. And Maddison has already been given one, very important lesson about the derby, from chairman Daniel Levy.
Speaking at a fans' forum, alongside Postecoglou and new captain Son Heung-min, Levy was asked a number of hard-hitting questions, from ticket prices to the European Super League idea, as well as his honest opinion on bringing in Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte. He was also asked about signing Maddison.
