Arsenal secured a vital win during Sunday's Premier League clash away to Everton thanks to a second-half Leandro Trossard strike. Gabriel Martinelli thought he had broken the deadlock after 19 minutes before VAR ultimately ruled the goal out when Eddie Nketiah was adjudged to have been offside during the build-up.
Martinelli then came off injured, with Trossard replacing him on the left flank. And it was the Belgian international that produced the only real moment of quality in front of goal, netting a superb left-footed curling finish past a helpless Jordan Pickford after a short corner tactic from the Gunners.
It's a hugely important win for Mikel Arteta's side considering they had failed to secure three points at Goodison Park since 2017 prior to Sunday's visit up north. Now football.london has taken a look at how the national media reacted to the result.
The Mirror
«The win will no doubt be satisfying for the Gunners but the fact that it has come at Goodison Park will leave an even wider smiler on Arteta's face. Arsenal's defeat at the same ground last season was one of a number of results which cost them in the race for the Premier League title.
»That was certainly not an unfamiliar feeling with Arsenal winless away at Everton since 2017. They have also only scored two goals at Goodison in the time since.
«Sunday's showdown was equally as testing, with the Gunners looking for a long time as though they would depart frustrated. It is far too early in the season to say a win at Goodison could bolster their title chances but it no doubt allows Arsenal to breathe a sigh of relief.»
The Guardian
«Arsenal picked a good place to showcase the determination, belief and class required to produce another Premier League title
