Chelsea are in no position to sign Aaron Ramsdale – Mauricio Pochettino has already signed Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic, with Gabriel Slonina soon to be at his disposal too. The Arsenal goalkeeper has suddenly become heavily linked with an exit from the Emirates Stadium after he was dropped from the starting lineup against Everton at the weekend.
After keeping just one clean sheet in the Gunners' first four Premier League fixtures this season, Mikel Arteta opted for David Raya between the sticks instead. The 41-year-old's decision to drop Ramsdale ahead of the club's first Champions League group stage clash in seven-years raised a few eyebrows to say the least – and now he faces an uncertain future in north London.
According to the Daily Mail, the England international's future is being 'closely monitored' by Chelsea and Bayern Munich. The report states that the Blues remain open to further bolstering their goalkeeping options, while the German giants are looking for a long-term successor to Manuel Neuer, who turns 38 in March.
While Ramsdale has prided himself as one of the top shot-stoppers in Europe recently, the west Londoners are in no rush, nor position, to sign him. Aside from the wealth of options which Pochettino already has at his disposal, Chelsea are still nursing a teething process under new ownership.
With so much pressure already on the club to succeed, the last thing the Blues must do is invite more unnecessary attention to their rebuild and essentially scrap their long-term vision between the sticks. Instead, Chelsea, Pochettino and Todd Boehly must persevere with Sanchez, Petrovic and, eventually, Slonina.
