African star brags over wondergoal vs Bafana: 'It's in me'

The Algeria star who netted a stunning acrobatic goal against Bafana Bafana last month has now insisted he "wasn't surprised" by his strike.

Yassine Benzia netted a potential contender for the 2024 Puskas Award during the recent FIFA World Series match against South Africa on 26 March.

While the match finished in a 3-3 draw, a few moments stood out, one being Themba Zwane's superb individual strike, and another being what would have been national team newcomer Elias Mokwana's second goal in as many games for Bafana, but his deflected shot was credited to Iqraam Rayners.

However, no moments stood out more than Benzia's spectacular strike, and the Qarabag star has now reflected further on his mesmerising effort following his return to his Azerbaijani club.

Speaking about the goal, he told French news outlet L'Equipe: "Honestly, it goes really fast. In one touch, I lifted the ball with my right foot and followed it up acrobatically with my left.

"I know it sounds crazy, but I wasn't surprised. It's in me, it's my soccer.

"When I was young at [Olympique] Lyon, I played as a No. 9.

"I've always had a flair for it and I've always been able to find my bearings in the penalty area."
