'All hands on deck' as chippy to re-open with new concept

A popular Merseyside fish and chip shop is re-opening with a fresh concept.

The Good Catch has branches in Everton, Litherland, Freshfield and Crosby but fans of the brand may have noticed that the latter has been closed since the beginning of February.

However, just in time for Good Friday, the chippy has made its return after undergoing renovation to become 'The Good Catch and Cow'. Still serving up their award-winning fish and chips, the shop's menu has been expanded to include a brand new list of 'smashed burgers': hamburger patties which are rolled into a ball and pressed thin onto a grill at the beginning of cooking, resulting in brown and crispy edges.

While the chippy will have "all hands on deck" for Good Friday, those in need of a burger will have to wait just a little bit longer to get their mouths around one of the new sandwiches, as they will become available from Tuesday, April 2.

In the run-up to reopening day, two of The Good Catch's four-sibling team of co-owners, Christopher Pittaras and Alison Mattravers,spoke to the ECHO. Alison said: "This is something which we’re really passionate about and we can’t wait to get the grill on.

"We were considering different options for a while, but it was New Year’s Day (this year) that we firmly made the decision to do smashed burgers.

"We’re working with the amazing Sunnyfields butcher in Hightown and they’re tailoring our meat to have a fat content which is specific to us. All of our sauces are homemade too.
