Aluko claims Chelsea keeper Sanchez has looked 'shaky' and 'still needs to grow'

Eni Aluko has claimed Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has looked 'shaky' so far this season.

The 25-year-old has come under scrutiny this season and was at fault for Arsenal's opening goal in the 2-2 draw last weekend.

Aluko says Sanchez's ability to play from the back is in question after Roberto De Zerbi dropped him from his Brighton side last season.

'I’m not overly convinced yet. I think it’s quite telling that he’s come in from Brighton, Robert de Zerbi is probably the most progressive manager playing out, and he got dropped at Brighton,' Aluko said speaking on TNT Sports.

'I think that’s a side of his game that has been talked about a lot and it’s shaky, not quite there yet. He’s got mistakes in him and still needs to grow as a Chelsea goalkeeper.

'When you think about the best Chelsea goalkeepers, like Petr Cech, you don’t really think about being good with your feet. You think: solid presence, leader. That’s what I expect to see from Chelsea goalkeepers.'

Asked whether having a ball-playing goalkeeper is worth the risk, Aluko added: 'Yeah. I mean, as we saw last week, 2-0 up against Arsenal and it’s casual. He’s played it out and Declan Rice has capitalised on it.

'Those are the mistakes that are costly. There’s so much pressure on goalkeepers to be pass-perfect. We see it with Onana at Man United and Raya at Arsenal, but because it’s so much talked about, teams are putting pressure on them and it’s leading to mistakes.

'There’s a long way to go for Sanchez but he’s got to stay confident and the back four have got to trust him.
