Netting a fine overhead kick at the weekend in their 2-1 home defeat against Cheltenham Town, the Tottenham loanee was at it again as he scored from distance to spark wild scenes in the away end at Field Mill. Receiving the ball in his own half and quickly moving beyond his marker, Devine raced towards the penalty area and let fly from 25 yards as his powerful drive bounced on the slick surface and gave Christy Pym no chance in goal.
It proved to be the only goal of the game as Vale became the first team to beat Mansfield in all competitions this season. Having so far avoided a Premier League club in the Carabao Cup on their run to the quarter-finals, there is now a very good chance they will come up against one of the big boys when the draw is made on Wednesday evening.
Championship side Middlesbrough are already assured of their place in the last eight following their 3-2 win at Exeter City, with Ipswich Town and Blackburn Rovers the only other two EFL sides left in the competition. Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle United are just some of the Premier League teams eyeing up a place in the quarter-finals, thus raising the prospect of a mouth-watering cup draw for Port Vale.
