Armando Broja has called on his Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino to hand him more minutes on a consistent basis after he scored the opener in Chelsea's 4-0 win over Preston North End in the FA Cup third round at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night.
It's been a tough year for the Albanian international — not only in terms of the brutal knee injury he suffered that kept him out for almost an entire year but also being forced to wait on the sidelines while the likes of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku arrived at Stamford Bridge and threaten to cut him out of the squad.
After all, Chelsea has not exactly been the best place for young talent in the past, given their history of using their 'loan army' as supporters so generously label it as to give them experience elsewhere before they return and it's determined whether or not they're good enough. However, the 22-year-old is not currently one of those players — and Pochettino has highlighted that in the past.
He's always mentioned Broja's name with words like 'patience' when questioned about potential striker upgrades for the current January transfer window when the Blues were struggling in front of goal in the early weeks of his tenure and last night's performance rewarded the Blues boss for his faith in the frontman.
In his post-match press conference, Pochettino said: «It's really important for him but I need to be honest, I think he needs to use this type of game to improve. Not only in his fitness or his capacity for work ethic, he needs to step up and move forward and smile more and be more positive in the way he needs to improve in his game.
