Arrows hope to take step closer to MTN Super League title

Red Arrows will seek to take another step towards the MTN Super League title when they travel to Green Buffaloes on Sunday.

Arrows have a commanding 10-point lead at the top of the table with six rounds remaining, and it would take some extraordinary for them to be knocked off top spot in the coming weeks.

Their midweek success over second-placed ZESCO United keeps them well on course for a third league title and second in three years after they claimed the 2021/22 trophy before losing out to Power Dynamos last campaign.

Arrows have now won 11 of their last 12 Super League matches, their run only blemished by a 0-0 home draw with Mufulira Wanderers in February. They have only conceded two goals in that run and none in their last nine games.

Buffaloes are in 10th position and unbeaten in four (W2 D2) but will do well to tame the rampaging bull in Arrows, especially as the latter won the reverse fixture 4-1 in November and have lost just one of their last 13 against their hosts.

ZESCO are winless in three (D2 L1) and host relegation-threatened Mutondo Stars on Sunday, looking to at least cling on to a CAF club competition place. They will rue too many draws this season, 11 in their 28 games. They have lost only four matches.

Power Dynamos returned to winning ways in midweek after three without victory and will look for back-to-back successes against Nkana FC in a local Kitwe Derby in, ironically, Ndola on Saturday.
