Jorginho has signed a new short-term contract with Arsenal, saying that he «feels he has more to do» with the club.
The Italian international joined from Chelsea on transfer deadline day in January 2023 for a fee of up to £12million. Although an initially unpopular addition, Jorginho has gone on to establish himself as a key member of Mikel Arteta's squad, making 51 appearances.
«I'm really, really happy to stay, because it's a privilege to be a part of this family,» the Italian said. «My family is happy, we are really well settled and I feel that I have more to do
»I think it’s been really positive, because I felt part of something big straight away. The way I felt involved and how I felt really in a good place. It’s not always like that, so when you feel something like this, it’s something important."
Jorginho's initial contract had been due to run out this summer after Arsenal didn't take up the opportunity to trigger a 12-month extension clause. However, the Gunners had been keen to reward the Italian, and proposed a fresh deal to reflect his current standing at the club.
Jorginho's experience has been invaluable to Arsenal as they seek to win a first Premier League title in 20 years. The Italian has been Arteta's go-to man in the biggest of matches — most notably February's 3-1 win over Liverpool.
