Arsenal transfer news: The Gunners could be forced into a deadline day signing due to injuries and a number of exits being sanctioned
Arsenal have been focused on sealing exits for the last few weeks but that could change with the summer transfer window deadline on the horizon. Mikel Arteta and Edu have until 11pm on September 1 to make any late moves with a clear gap in the squad that could be highlighted in a few months.
"I've had a lot of Arsenal fans asking me if there is a plan to replace Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares," transfer guru Fabrizio Romano said about a defensive signing for Arsenal via CaughtOffside. "For now I think it’s an open situation - Arsenal are always acting with same strategy in this kind of cases, they sign a player if they believe it’s the right opportunity. There are no talks as of today but let’s keep it open until the end, based on outgoings."
According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, Arsenal, along with a number of Premier League clubs, are monitoring the 25-year-old. A defensive signing is not paramount but Arteta will have two members of his preferred back line absence in the month of January if Rob Holding and Cedric Soares depart.
With Thomas Partey heading to AFCON with Ghana and Takehiro Tomiyasu set to take part in the Asia Cup with Japan, just five defenders will be in north London in the first month of 2024 as it stands. With Jurrien Timber out until the spring at the very least, only Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba, Ben White, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior, fitness permitting, will be available for selection.
