Mikel Arteta is staring another FA fine and ban right in the face after a furious outburst following the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday. The Arsenal boss did not mince his words after his side were beaten by Anthony Gordon's second half goal at St James' Park to end a 10-game unbeaten run at the start of the season.
To make matters worse for the Gunners it was not just one decision that they felt went against them. Firstly there was frustration that Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimaraes was not punished for an apparent elbow on Jorginho just before half-time whilst continued tackles on Bukayo Saka that went without a booking incensed the team and staff.
Then things really kicked off after the break with Gordon putting the home side ahead despite VAR checking for three seperate potential reasons to disallow the goal. In the build-up the ball came extremely close to going out of play as a marginal call was made to move on before questions emerged over Joelinton's role in pushing Gabriel Magalhaes and also handling the ball before Gordon smashed in, potentially from an offside position.
Although Arteta's men only had one shot on target in the entire game and struggled to create chances worthy of winning the gamehe let his feelings be known afterwards in no uncertain terms. «We have to talk about the result because you have to talk about how the hell this goal stand ups and it’s incredible,» he started. «I feel embarrassed but I have to be the one now coming here to try to defend the club and please ask for help, because it's an absolute disgrace that this goal is allowed; it’s an absolute disgrace.»
