Mikael Silvestre has urged Mikel Arteta to not sign Marc Guehi and, instead, bring a new striker to the Emirates Stadium. The 23-year-old defender has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal for a while now as he continues to impress for Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Guehi, who sees his contract at Selhurst Park expire in 2026, has featured 22 times in the English top flight this term, helping the Eagles keep five clean sheets. Before suffering a knee injury in February, his impress performances earned numerous call-ups to the senior England squad.
Not only has Guehi managed to impress Gareth Southgate but he's also reportedly courted the interest of some top clubs. According to The Telegraph, Arsenal have recently joined Manchester United and Liverpool in the race to sign the former Chelsea youngster.
The report states that Guehi will likely cost 'more than £55million' and Mauricio Pochettino's side have the right to match any bid for him as part of the deal that took him from west to south London in 2021. While the Emirates Stadium has been mooted as a potential destination, Silvestre believes the Gunners should look elsewhere.
The former Arsenal defender has insisted that Arteta needs a striker, who can score '30 goals'. Speaking to bettingexpert.com, Silvestre said: «Marc Guehi is a good player. Would he be able to play for Arsenal? I’m sure he will.
»But normally with Kiwior, with Timber, Ben White, Tomiyasu, you have enough centre-backs. You have enough players to cover for William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes. You always need to bring players in, not many, but bring in for certain positions to either refresh or give competition.
