Arsenal legend Paul Merson took to social media to make fun of Manchester United supporters after their 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Monday night. The Eagles were fully in control of proceedings and scored the opening goal through Michael Olise in the 12th minute.
They led 2-0 at the break, thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta. United looked dead and buried as more misery was piled on Erik ten Hag's team. Tyrick Mitchell then scored the third before Olise bagged his second of the evening.
Despite the result, United remain eighth in the Premier League table, level on points with Chelsea in seventh and five points from West Ham in ninth. While it may have been a night to forget for the Red Devils, it was certainly one that many Arsenal fans cherished.
Merson was one of them, taking the opportunity to plug a website when mocking United. Quote retweeting United's post after Olise had bagged his second, he said on X: Any United fans struggling to sleep tonight, remember code Merson40 will save you 40% at http://supremecbd.uk."
At full-time, he added: «I’ll give you that advice 4-nothing,» followed by a laughing and football emoji.
United boss Ten Hag admitted the defeat was their worst of the season. «It is very disappointing,» he said. Under-performing. Definitely the worst defeat, We should have done better.
