Mikel Arteta has given an update on the latest Arsenal injury news ahead of the Gunners' welcoming Sevilla to Emirates Stadium in the Champions League. Fitness concerns have plagued Arsenal and Arteta throughout the 2023/24 season with almost every outfield player considered a member of the first-team squad picking up an injury or being a doubt.
The current treatment room includes Jurrien Timber, Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus with that trio being joined by Martin Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe in the last week. Smith Rowe was initially Odegaard's replacement for the Premier League win over Sheffield United, although he was then absent for the Carabao Cup loss to West Ham.
On Smith Rowe, Arteta said: «He felt something in his knee and started to feel some pain after the game — we are assessing him, but [it’s] a big worry with him. He's going to be out for weeks.» Despite scoring off the bench last week, football.london understands the club captain was assessed ahead of the trip to Tyneside but was ruled out.
Arteta has now provided a brief update on his availability, along with others, with the Norway international later not spotted in the open training session held at London Colney on Tuesday. He said: «Gabby [Gabriel Jesus] won’t be fit, with Martin it is still uncertain, the rest no news so far.»
With Jesus unavailable after starring in away fixture a fortnight ago, the mantle will be on Eddie Nketiah once again, although he joined Odegaard and Jesus as a player not captured in training. However, football.london understands the striker is nursing a knock he picked up during the Newcastle defeat. It's believed the knock is not serious and he could still be involved against Sevilla.
