I already know that this topic has created quite the debate amongst the Arsenal faithful and even addressing it is in itself something of a risk, much like I think the transfer of Ivan Toney to north London would be. It is understandable that a player who has scored 32 goals in the past two Premier League seasons would draw plenty of interest, but there’s something that I feel has been overlooked amongst the hype of his potential move.
The England international has been linked since the summer with suggestions being Arsenal were keen prior to the forward’s ban being established. That interest has seemingly remained along with a number of clubs ahead of a potential January exit from Brentford.
Had this been the case a couple of years ago and we were talking about Toney in his current standing I’d have been much more keen from a footballing point of view. Signings made to help get Arsenal back and established in the Champions League saw the likes of Gabriel Jesus arrive from Manchester City and the goal has been accomplished – at least the return has and an establishment in the Champions League looks likely.

However, the next step for Arsenal is to close the gap to treble winners Manchester City to a point where they themselves can win the league. Therefore the question has to be, if the feeling is Gabriel Jesus is not good enough himself to do so, why is Toney?
