Arsenal seek Folarin Balogun transfer ‘compromise’ as Monaco plot offer amid Tottenham interest
Monaco are reportedly preparing to submit their second bid for Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun, who excelled in Ligue during his loan spell with Stade Reims
Monaco are reportedly set to submit an improved bid for Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun.
The 22-year-old made his debut for the Gunners in October 2020 but truly rose to prominence last season during his loan spell at Stade Reims. Balogun recorded 22 goals in 39 appearances, putting the USA international on the radar of several clubs throughout Europe.
Balogun’s desire for regular minutes has placed serious doubts over his future in north London, with Mikel Arteta able to call upon Eddie Nketiah, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz in Gabriel Jesus’ absence. Arsenal have reportedly placed a £50million valuation on the striker and Monaco were claimed to have seen their opening offer of around £36million rejected last week.
The Daily Mail has stated that Monaco are expected to submit an ‘improved offer’ for Balogun in their efforts to bring him back to Ligue 1 after identifying the Arsenal striker as one of their top transfer targets. It is said that Arsenal’s sporting director Edu Gaspar and his Monaco counterpart Thiago Scuro have continued to hold discussions as the pair search for a ‘compromise’ that would lead to an agreement between the two clubs.
Balogun has entered the final two years of his Arsenal contract, scoring twice in his 10 appearances for the Gunners. The USMNT star joined the Gunners aged eight but has remarkably emerged as a potential target for Tottenham Hotspur.
