ARSENAL 3-1 BURNLEY
MANAGER Mike Arteta cut a figure of relative calm as his Arsenal side returned to winning ways in the Premier League following last weekend's controversial first defeat of the season at Newcastle.
Again, there were some questionable decisions for him to react to and a red card for midfielder Fabio Vieira, but his old Manchester City colleague Vincent Kompany's Burnley side only gave him brief moments for concern.
Kompany's well-drilled defence looked so comfortable against Arsenal's relatively slow-paced start, nothing like a team that had lost six of their last seven fixtures. They had kept clean sheets on their last two visits here, however, and have generally been more convincing away from home.
That nearly changed on 20 minutes when Bukayo Saka awoke from his slumber on the right and cut inside to shoot. Keeper James Trafford kept it out with a fingertip save on to the crossbar. Warning served that Arsenal were not going to give Burnley such an easy ride for the entire match.
Ten minutes later and the increasingly disappointing Kai Havertz missed the target with a free near post header from a Saka corner. €60million down the drain? Looks like it, but only time will tell.
Burnley hit back with a great break and run by Johann Gudmondsson. The Icelander's surging run ended with a low shot being tipped to safety by Arsenal keeper David Raya.
Leandro Trossard, playing up front ahead of Eddie Nketiah and the injured Gabriel Jesus, was next to show with a crack shot from distance. Trafford saved well with another spectacular leap.
