Barcelona are set to complete a deal to bring Oriel Romeu back to the club.
Fabrizio Romano reports that an agreement has been reached with Girona with the 31-year-old having already completed a medical.
The deal will also see Pablo Torre move the other way on a season-long loan.
The midfield has been a focus for Barca this summer following the departure of Sergio Busquets and the expected exit of exit of Franck Kessie.
The club remain in a difficult financial situation and Romeu represents a low cost option for added depth.
Romeu came through the youth ranks at Barcelona but only ever made one first team appearance.
He would go on to spend four years on the books at Chelsea before a seven-year spell with Southampton, where he made over 200 appearances.
The defensive midfielder joined Girona last summer and played 34 times, scoring two goals.
Romeu spoke to the media about his impending move to Barcelona and said: 'yes, I'm happy.'
He went on to add that he has not had any exchange with Barcelona manager Xavi yet.
