Speaking on the Portuguese radio station Antena 1 (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Fran Gonzalez, the father of Barcelona youngster Nico Gonzalez, has claimed that the midfielder is courting interest from FC Porto this summer.
The father of the 21-year-old midfielder also confirmed that several teams from England and Spain are also keen on signing him.
Nico, a product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy, is back at the club after spending a season away on loan at Valencia. The Spanish prospect is keen on succeeding at the club but understands that he does not have a space in the team at this point.
As such, the academy graduate is likely to leave on loan again and there appears to be no shortage of interest in his services.
“Nico has proposals from Spain, Portugal and England, and he will have to make a decision. The most important thing is that he gets minutes,” said Fran Gonzalez.
Confirming the interest from Porto, the former Deportivo La Coruna icon said: “Porto is a great club and we have to be grateful because they value Nico, but there is still nothing about his future. We will talk in the next few days.”
However, Fran stated that the final call will rest on Barcelona, as he stated: “FC Barcelona will talk to him about what he has to do. For the moment, he is training while waiting for his future to be defined.”
As mentioned earlier, Porto are keen on signing Nico on loan. At the same time, closer to home, Real Betis and Valencia are also looking to secure the 21-year-old’s services on a temporary arrangement.
So, it remains to be seen where the La Masia graduate ends up, as there is simply no chance of him getting regular minutes at Barcelona this term.
