Barcelona plan to begin renovation work on La Masia, which for nearly 32 years was the home of the Catalan club's academy players, from the third quarter of 2025, the club said in a statement on Saturday.
It also said it has awarded the renovation work on the site to ABR Arquitectos Barcelona Rio, which will become the club's new headquarters.
The Catalan giants plan to present a special plan in the near future to ensure that the building retains its original appearance. Once the project is approved, the club presided over by Joan Laporta will have to apply to Barcelona City Council for planning permission. As a result, Barcelona envisages starting work on the facility in the third quarter of 2025.
La Masia was built in 1702 and was located within the land acquired by the club in 1950 for the construction of Camp Nou. Initially, it was used as a workroom for architects and builders, but when the stadium was inaugurated in 1957, it closed its doors.
Subsequently, it housed the club's offices from 1966 until 1978, when the club's headquarters were moved next to the ice rink. Under the presidency of Jose Luis Nunez, it became the residence for young players living away from Barcelona, who until October 1979, the date of its inauguration, lived in boarding houses and private homes.
