Joey Barton has taken aim at Gary Neville, calling the pundit a 'little shop steward' and claiming he knows 'little to nothing about football' on the heels of Manchester United's humbling at the hands of Crystal Palace.
Erik ten Hag's side were torn apart by the competent and confident hosts at Selhurst Park on Monday evening, who claimed four goals without reply in what might have been a let-off for the shambolic visitors.
Neville's frequent Sky Sports co-host Jamie Carragher labelled the side 'one of the most poorly coached teams in the Premier League' and both Paul Scholes and Michael Owen called for Ten Hag's resignation, which leaves United glued to eighth place with just three games to play.
Barton has previously made Neville the focus of his ire on social media, and wasted no time making the former United man the target after sharing a comment in response to a video of Neville filmed in pre-season.
In the video, Neville claimed that Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp would be envious of United's midfield selection, citing Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Christian Eriksen as examples of the Red Devils' talented ranks.
But while Carragher also mocked Neville's poorly aged statements in the wake of the defeat, Barton wasted no time offering his corrections for the 'sage of football', as well as drawing upon his links to League Two side Salford City.
'I wonder how the sage of football is feeling this morning (Gary Neville)?,' Barton shared on social media site X (formerly Twitter). 'Salford finished 20th in League 2 after another £5-6m spend.
