Bayern Munich are closing in on the reappointment of former manager Julian Nagelsmann, according to a report.
The German club have been on the hunt for a new manager since revealing earlier this year that they would be moving on from Thomas Tuchel, and had been tipped to appoint Xabi Alonso.
Alonso was the man that led the mission to dethrone Bayern for the first time in 12 years, securing Bayer Leverkusen's first Bundesliga title on Sunday, and the Spaniard has been tipped to join one of Europe's top teams.
But he revealed that he will be staying with Leverkusen for at least another year, forcing Bayern to look elsewhere to appoint Tuchel's successor.
According to Sky Sports, the German's replacement is set to be Nagelsmann, who coached Bayern between 2021 and 2023 before taking over the Germany national team ahead of Euro 2024.
Nagelsmann, 36, was appointed Germany manager in September last year on a contract running until after the Euros, and he is expected to step down when the tournament is over.
He was sacked by Bayern a little over a year ago, in March 2023, during an international break with the club trailing Borussia Dortmund in the league table.
Tuchel, Nagelsmann's former coach at Augsburg, replaced him and went on to win the Bundesliga on the final day, but Bayern announced earlier this season that he would not continue beyond the end of the campaign.
Bayern and Liverpool had been chasing Alonso's signature before he committed his immediate future to Bayer Leverkusen.
The club hierarchy are said to be sure that Nagelsmann is the right man to lead the overhaul, with Bayern sporting director Max Eberl reportedly giving the green light for the appointment.
