Boys from the Blackstuff will return to Liverpool's Royal Court before moving to London's National Theatre.
The production, which adapted Alan Bleasdale's seminal 1980s TV drama for the stage, won many plaudits during its initial run at the Royal Court last year. Adapted by James Graham and directed by Kate Wasserberg, the play received five stars in its ECHO review, which declared it "theatre at its very, very best".
Like the TV show, the play follows five unemployed tarmac layers struggling to find work in 1980s Liverpool - a city fighting against the tide of high unemployment. It is probably best known for the character Yosser Hughes, famous for his catchphrases of "gizza job" and "I can do that".

The play will return to the Royal Court from April 19 to May 11, before moving to the National's Olivier Theatre from May 22 to June 8.
Once again, the production will be directed by Kate Wasserberg, with original cast members George Caple, Dominic Carter, Helen Carter, Aron Julius, Nathan McMullen, Lauren O’Neil, Barry Sloane and Mark Womack returning. It is an original production from the Royal Court.
Kevin Fearon, executive producer at the Royal Court, said: “In 18 years of producing theatre by and for Liverpool, shows haven't come any bigger than Boys From The Blackstuff. To be able to bring this fantastic piece of work back to the Court before it transfers to the National is as exciting as much as it is a real honour.”
