Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Brighton and Hove Albion have identified Lille OSC’s Carlos Baleba (19) as Moises Caicedo’s replacement. The Ecuadorian midfielder is set for a British-record £115m transfer to Chelsea.
Romano first reported Brighton’s interest in Baleba earlier on Monday. The Cameroonian midfielder came through the ranks at Lille and was integrated into the first team last season. Baleba started Les Dogues’ opening match of the season, featuring alongside Benjamin André in a 1-1 draw against OGC Nice.
However, he could be set for a departure. Romano is reporting that he has been identified as a replacement for Caicedo, who is on the verge of a move to Stamford Bridge. Personal terms have already been agreed between Baleba and Brighton, however, an agreement must now be found between the two clubs.
According to Romano, a bid worth around €16m has been submitted. This offer includes add-ons. However, RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins is reporting that Lille want around €30m for their defensive midfielder. A deal could nonetheless be done between €20-30m, according to the French journalist.
