Mossley boss Ronnie Burns has been chuffed with their start to season
RONNIE Burns believes putting an onus on the collective rather than the individual is behind Mossley’s brilliant start to the new season.
Saturday’s 3-1 win over Ballynahinch Olympic which sets up a trip to Larne Tech next month in the third round of the Border Cup was their seventh straight win in all competitions since the curtain was raised on 23/24 a month ago.
And in truth, in that time Burns’ side have made it all look rather easy, with those wins coming with an average of five goals a game.
“On paper, I would agree you could say the fixture list could have been worse but our first two games, we played Sirocco and Dunmurry Rec,” explained Burns.
“Sirocco are much-changed from last year, a young side, and while we ended up winning comfortably, they have some really, really good players and I was quite impressed with the improvements they have made.
“And after seeing Dunmurry too, I have no doubt that both them and Sirocco will take points off the top four, top five this year.
“We’ve had a really good start, but we’ve had a conversation with the lads and we know there are bigger tests to come, and we’ll see how they react in the big games when they come up against your Plunketts and Kilmores and boys like that. It’s been a crazy start but a long way to go, we’re only in September.”
